Situation
Our client, one of the largest airlines in Australia has an existing legacy system that is crucial for managing over 100 airplanes and 2,000+ airline crew members. The system is used by schedulers and crew members, in addition to larger airline crews that fly internationally.

Managing and scheduling the large flight crew was a smoother task with automation.
While the legacy system is over 25 years old, it has unique integrations with external systems. The codebase is comprised of Java, C++ and Solaris system, making it a difficult decision to upgrade the entire ecosystem.
Due to new collective bargaining regulations, the airline is required to confirm legality requirements for cabin crew and pilots, which is a manual and time-consuming process.
Action
Our client engaged Infogain to enhance existing tools and frameworks that would make managing and scheduling the flight crew an easier task. Automation removed many of the manual processes. Also, the frontend application used every day by 1,500+ cabin and flight deck crew members was enhanced for a better user experience.
For crew assignments, we built a tool that enhanced the existing solution with new visualization methods. For example, to be compliant with government regulations, airlines must ensure that their flight crews have met all legalities. We have enabled the airline to easily find this information by enhancing an existing product.
While the current process in mostly manual, new algorithms planned for the next releases will allow for full automation.
