Situation
When our client’s transformation began its journey from Quality Assurance to Quality Engineering, the company was utilizing 13 different automation frameworks, creating significant complexity and inefficiency.
Optimized test scripts and consolidation platform helped to reduce frameworks and regression cycle time.
The time required to complete a regression cycle was a lengthy 3 weeks and our client lacked a consolidated reporting platform, or unified view of testing activities and results. With multiple independent contractors, the testing cycles were long, and there was an issue with production defects leaking into the live environment.
When a testing cycle was complete, reports were consolidated manually, which was a time consuming process.
Action
We established a Testing Center of Excellence (TCOE) to provide managed services to both regression and product teams, ensuring a high standard of testing across the board. As part of our modernization efforts, we migrated 5,000 test scripts to the Cucumber platform, which enabled us to eliminate the need for costly licensing tools by leveraging our own test automation framework.
We optimized test scripts to enhance their efficiency and reliability and implemented a consolidated reporting platform, which included the addition of governance and analytics dashboards. These improvements allowed us to quickly streamline our processes, reducing the number of frameworks and significantly cutting down the regression cycle time.
Our client now utilizes the Cucumber + Unified Automation Platform (UAP) for seamless and efficient test execution. Looking ahead, we will establish Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, implement code-less automation solutions, and migrate the UAP ecosystem to the Google Cloud Platform. These initiatives are set to further enhance our testing capabilities and drive innovation in our processes.
